About the exhibition

The Al Thani Collection at the Hôtel de la Marine presents an exhibition that examines how, at different times and in various regions of the world, cultures have been fascinated by and inspired by the animal kingdom.
Through more than 120 works from the Al Thani Collection, many of which are being unveiled in Paris for the first time, the exhibition explores representations of real and imaginary creatures from civilizations spread across four continents, from Exhibition poster; IIIth millennium BC. Among the key works are a Laconian bronze votive statuette representing a horse from the Geometric period (Greece, 750-730 BC), an imposing belt buckle (daigou) in the shape of a tiger made in China during the Warring States period (475–221 BC).
