About the exhibition
For his fifth exhibition at the Galerie de l'Europe, Joseph Jeantet presents Ombre, a new set of works created with pure pigment, on canvas and large format paper. At the heart of the artist’s work, fragility. Volatile pigments, water, black ink: painting becomes a dialogue with the material, where each gesture calls for the next and where shapes are revealed as natural concretions.
From deep blue to almost black lapis, Joseph Jeantet continues his exploration of vibrant monochromes, transparency and the unexpected. Shadow is not the absence of light, but what allows light to appear: a threshold, a trace, a presence barely removed from the visible. Fifth chapter of a collaboration begun in 2021 with the Galerie de l'Europe, Ombre marks the maturity of an approach where painting, attentive to all the forces that can influence it, allows itself to be penetrated by what goes beyond it.
