In December 2025, the Palais Galliera will inaugurate a series of exhibitions dedicated to know-how. During three successive exhibitions, which will approach fashion professions and techniques from different angles, the museum highlights the richness of its collections and offers a new look at the history of fashion from the 18th century to the present day.

About the exhibition

This first exhibition is devoted to the know-how of ornamentation – weaving, printing, embroidery, lace, artificial flowers – which allow us to enhance and decorate clothing and accessories. These techniques are approached through the theme of the flower, an essential motif in textile art and fashion since the 18th century. Its multiple variations allow you to appreciate the play of materials, the treatment of colors, volumes, or the placement of patterns that it inspires with the seasons. From the embroidered textile of an 18th century vest to the laser printing of a Balenciaga ensemble, from Chantilly lace to Gabrielle Chanel's camellia, the exhibition highlights the wide variety of techniques, while questioning their symbolism and their uses.
