From the infinitely large to the infinitely small, modernity
scientist sought to illuminate everything, make everything clear and measurable, until
to “roll back the sky”. Yet, under this new sky, the opacity of
world has not disappeared. This contemporary vagueness is no longer the premodern one, but
persists in epistemic, environmental and social uncertainty. A
unknown that science continues to produce as it advances, and the art of revealing
moving the gaze.
Also, if modernity has caused the sky to recede, it has not necessarily
left empty.
When the sky recedes is a collective exhibition
art-science that explores these uncertain territories. Like an operator
of cinema playing with the focal length, it alternates the sharp and the blur, the
clarity and darkness, to disturb our certainties and open new
spaces of perception.
It is precisely in these persistent gray areas that
the most lively questions are born, and the artistic approaches and
most fertile scientists. From the infinitely large to the infinitely small,
what place is left for the unknown, the vagueness, the chiaroscuro when the
science pushes the boundaries of knowledge?
From July 1 to 12, 2026, we invite you to discover When
the sky recedes in Wilde – Le Lieu.
